What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?

Transponder Codes

There are 63 discrete code blocks that can be assigned to an aircraft. However, there are also reserved codes that prevent the use of specific codes in areas of high traffic or during emergencies. The discrete code blocks are configured by statistical analysis to reduce the chance that two aircrafts with identical SQUAWK codes will be in the same area at any one time.

A transponder key is equipped with an embedded chip that contains the ID code. If the security light in a vehicle comes on, it means that the ID code of the key doesn't match the one stored in the computer. If this occurs, the immobilizer of the car will be disabled and will not start until a new key is used. PIN Codes

A PIN code is a set of numbers (usually six or four digits) that can be used to gain access to the device or system.
